Image Academic publishing is the mechanism which disseminates academic research through the community. Most academic work is expected to be published as journal articles, books or thesis. Ideally, academic publishing relies on some form of peer review or editorial refereeing to qualify/disqualify texts for publication. This accounts for the publish or perish drama, i.e. the ever increasing pressure to publish original research work constantly in order to further or sustain one's career in academia.

Like Alice in Alice in Wonderland, we must be continuously running to stay at the very same place.
